A fun time was had by all at the TL Chili Cook Off. The competition was fierce, 20 chili pots arrived full and went home empty; but the tummies of >200 folks went home full! (… of chili, cornbread, sweets and a beer or two…) The Halloween storytellers awed the kids, while smores at the firepits were yet another treat. A sudden crazy wind came through early, blowing the decades old ballot box in the lake along with dozens of styrofoam chili bowls, but the party went on and it was a wonderful evening. This first “Event” of the season was successfully managed by Linda Kuna. Thank you Linda! The TLEC is effectively a small steering committee, providing guidance and recruiting of volunteers to lead or participate in their favorite event (or part of an event in the case of the 4th). One and done, is a favorite saying these days – no two year commitment, no pair of spouses participation required- just step up and lead or manage a piece of a community event of your choice. A special thank you and call out to the tent team and all others that did set up/tear down and clean-up – none of these fun times could take place without you!
Judges Choice: Carol Mackey with “Out of your Gourd”
Peoples Choice: David Koelling (friend of the Butler’s) with “Kobe Beef Steak Chili”
People Choice, Honorable Mention: Chris Burgoon with “Home on the Range Chicken Chili”
It turns out both Carol and David are professional chefs, so Chris Burgoon stood up with the best!
