Another July 4th holiday celebration has come and gone. As we pack up the red, white and blue decorations and get ready for back-to-school shopping, we have much for which to be thankful. We live in a great community that knows how to celebrate. The annual July 4th festivities are our coming out party. It kicked off this year with Magoo, a Grateful Dead-themed band at the Adult Social. The music continued throughout the weekend with favorite duo Jasper Acoustic (aka Judson Brown) and local musicians Leadfoot and Pat McKillen, not to be outdone by our own Tower Lakes Jam Band and others who competed in “Tower Lakes Got Talent.” “We have a wealth of talent in the neighborhood, so we didn’t have to venture too far to get music for our big weekend,” said Bob Nash, Social Committee member in charge of musical acts.
A big attraction this year was the gorgeous weather. It was cold and rainy right before and after, but the warm, sunny weather shined on us all weekend. Other highlights during the weekend included the Fishing Derby, Homerun Derby, Basketball Shootout and Pony Rides. A renewed event this year was the Swim Races. “It was great to see families cheer on kids, parents and grandparents! Relays, watermelon race and the biggest highlight was the kids vs. lifeguard race. Youth Committee will be sure to host the event again next year!” said Courtney Young, member of the Youth Committee. The Parade, Tennis Tournament and Volleyball Competition rounded out the weekend.
“The Social Committee did an excellent job with the limited number of members this year. I’m so very proud of them and all the community volunteers that stepped up to help make this year’s celebration seamless,” said TLIA President Randy Young. “As the new structure gets into place this month, I would ask residents to take on a whole or a portion of an upcoming social event so we can continue to enjoy each other, our assets, and community. I’d like to live our theme: Tower Lakes Proud and make our community an even better place to call home. “
