What is the impact of coyotes on an urban landscape, and the implications for people, pets, and other wildlife? Find out during an informative presentation led by international coyote expert Dr. Stanley D. Gehrt.
In Urban Carnivores, Gehrt shares his passion for mammalian ecology in urban settings from experience. As Principal Investigator of the Cook County Coyote Project, Dr. Gehrt has spent the past 15 years researching coyote behavior in urban Chicago in response to growing concerns about increased coyote sightings in the 1990’s. Since the beginning of the study, his team has caught and tagged nearly 700 coyotes to observe their behavior in the urban landscape.
While most coyotes don’t pose a threat to humans, this research has provided important insights into peaceful coexistence with a fellow mammal that has adapted to the city life. To learn more of Gehrt’s research, plan to attend his Myths & Truths of Chicago Coyotes presentation on May 14 at 7 pm. Upstairs Room at McGonigal’s Pub, 105 S. Main Street, Barrington. Advanced purchase tickets required. ($20/person).
