Everyday time I walk my dog through the neighborhood I am reminded about how beautiful Tower Lakes is in the spring. The flowers planted by our Beautification Committee, the beautiful heritage trees managed by the Grounds Committee, and all the care our residents put into their individual properties. It truly is a picturesque place every year as spring blooms.

Much of the information in this months newsletter is about our environment. You will read about the new TL Village Tree Commission and the breaking news that Lake County has approved the final permits necessary allowing us to move forward with the rain garden construction.

TLIA has taken an active role in both these projects and will continue to support them with both our volunteer and financial resources.  It is only right that we take an active role, TLIA is the largest land manager in the Tower Lakes and we have an environmental responsibility to maintain it. John Yancey will sit on the commission and represent the Association’s interests. John has been a great steward of our grounds for many years during his service on the TLIA Board. I look forward to his active participation as I appreciate the participation of all the commissioners who are TLIA members.

Your Board will whole heartedly invest in the efforts of the Tree Commission as well. We discussed this at the last Board meeting and all agreed to work hand-in-hand with the commission and their plans. As the story notes, we have been a “Tree City USA” for 22 years!

On the Rain Garden, you can read the story on page 1 with the additional knowledge that we now have the final permits. Andy Hay has championed this project from the beginning and he has done a brilliant job. With the awarding of the final permit, the plans will proceed forward. Before long, construction will begin with completion before the Fourth of July festivities. I don’t want to spill any beans but we might be planing a dedication ceremony for all to attend during the July activities. What you will see is a beautiful and functioning environmental asset to our community.

TLIA is all about our environment as it comes to new life every spring. As you stroll through the neighborhood, take a good look around and marvel at the natural beauty in which we live. Take pride in knowing that it is our neighborhood and we all have an  active part to play in maintaining it.
