It is the spirit of living in Tower Lakes that is the beating heart of TLIA. We could live anywhere, but for all the right reasons, we choose to live here. Welcome to the 2017 TLIA Annual Meeting.
My experience, over several years on the TLIA Board, has taught me a few things:
- understanding that we are a great volunteer organization;
- that everyone’s time and exceptional talents are pulled in many directions; and
- that it takes patience to get things accomplished.
As a Board, each of us takes our position seriously and I want to thank each and every member of this board for being “that person” who steps up and serves our community. Thank you for all you do, all year long.
My friends, it is 2018, and TLIA is no longer a “kitchen table” organization, as perhaps we have been in the past. Today, we don’t have the luxury of operating from that point of view. We have grown and flourished. Our responsibilities have expanded. The nature of our organization requires that we understand this and come upon a deeper realization.
To that end, we have made great strides in our operations. I would like to see more, and there will be more… remember my admonition about patience… I look forward to the new members of the Board joining in this endeavor, as they settle into their commitment ahead.
Now, we all know that volunteerism is at the core of our association. It has been the hallmark of Tower Lakes for generations. Ask yourself…do I step up? Do I join my neighbors on clean up day, planning social events…4th of July?
My first challenge to you for 2018 is that you step up, take it upon yourself to re-generate the spirit of Tower Lakes…be that person who builds our community.
Our committees are your super-highway to commitment. I believe they are in a great position for 2018 and today is your day to commit to the opportunity before you.
It will be your belief in giving back, and your desire to be apart of something greater that will continue to build this community. The people who have taken this challenge are about to step up once again and report to the membership, their neighbors, on the results of their efforts, on your behalf in 2017 and their plans for to do even more in 2018.
I urge you to watch them, learn from them and follow their example. Be a part of the solution, be a part of the plan, and be an influencer in TLIA.
